Our story

It started with one honest cup.

Ranchi · est. 2017

Why we do this

“We serve life - making you feel alive at your busiest, happiest, or laziest moment.”

For a few hours or a few days, we become part of your journey. You are king and queen to us. That feeling has a name here - ahsas gharwali.

- Ankit Kumar, founder

Ankit Kumar, around the time he started The Local Chai in 2017

The journey

One person, one stove, no shortcuts.

In 2017, Ankit Kumar lit the stove on an open-front corner in Ranchi and made a simple promise: chai the way it should be made, for whoever walked up.

No franchise playbook, no flavour concentrates - just the patience to do it properly, cup after cup. The corner became a habit. The habit became a neighbourhood.

Today the same counter holds a 4.8★ reputation built one remembered order at a time - reviews that don't talk about a café, but about feeling at home.

Early days

Before the counter had a name everyone knew.

Cycle rounds, free cups, and the long road of showing up - Ranchi remembers how it began.

In his words

“How the decoction is drawn, how the leaves meet the hot milk, the timing of it - that's where the secret lives.”

Ask him and he'll tell you there's no recipe card behind the counter. There's a standard: cooked properly, every single time.

Not a chain, a promise

  • Whole spices, pounded fresh. Real saffron, never essence.

  • Every cup made to order. Nothing sitting in a pot going bitter.

  • Honest pricing. Great chai should never need a premium surcharge.

  • No copy-paste. Not in the chai, not in the welcome.

Chalo, chai ho jaye.
